Denmark Hill Ipswich Ipswich Motorsport Museum 1 RAAF Amberley 1 Railway Museum 1

(Available Thursdays and third Sunday of the month due to RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre opening hour restrictions, but if other days are required when the Aviation Centre is not open, this tour can be modified to suit)

Here’s something different for the traveller (or local) who’d like to see something not usually on a standard tour itinerary.  This tour can be customised to suit and showcases Brisbane’s beautiful, elegant ‘country cousin’, Ipswich. For this tour you catch a train from either Brisbane Central or Roma Street and we pick you up at Springfield Central’s new state of the art railway station.  Along this 45min train ride you can see a bit of suburban Brisbane from the comfort of an airconditioned carriage.  From Springfield Central Station we do a quick spin of the much-awarded master-planned Ipswich community of Springfield Lakes before embarking on an exhilarating 100kph ride along the new Centenary Motorway taking in sweeping country views before touring the many heritage buildings and private homes of this elegant city, Denmark Hill itself a fine heritage precinct with views to the mountain ranges beyond, and beautiful private buildings and churches dotted throughout the city.  Included in this tour is $100 per couple (or $50 per person) to offset train fares and entry to venues or lunches, depending on how the tour is customised.  The Workshops Railway Museum is a trainspotters delight and includes many old trains to explore, interesting displays, plus a look at the railway workshops themselves.  The Motorsports Museum located in the Ispwich CBD is a treasure-trove of motor sporting memorabilia for the car enthusiast and has over 200 vehicles from the earliest days of motor racing to those driven by famous racing legends such as Dick Johnson.   The RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre is free (but donations are greatly appreciated).  This is a great one for aviation and militaria buffs alike as the centre has  a WWII Boston Bomber, Vietnam-era Canberra bomber, Caribou airlifter, Sioux and Iroquois helicopters, and WWII Jeeps. Also included are Sabre and Mirage fighter jets, and (wait for it!) you can sit in the cockpit of an F-111!  There are also exhibits of medals, armaments, aircraft modules and engines.  As if all this wasn’t enough, we stop for beer tasting and lunch at The Pumpyard Bar and Brewery where you can sample the many small-batch flavoursome beers brewed by Four Hearts Brewery.

So, what do you get in this action-filled day out?  *$100 per couple (or $50 for one person) to spend as you wish to offset your, entry fees, lunch, and train rides to and from Brisbane’s ‘outer limits’, exciting town and country trike tour showcasing the very best of the Ipswich district, visits to your choice of Ipswich’s Workshops Railway Museum, Motorsports Museum and RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre and lunch with beer tasting at a boutique brewery.  Plus we provide water/juice and snacks to enjoy along the way.

(N.B. Closed in shoes are a requirement for this tour due to The Workshops Railway Museum entry rules)
